Hailing from the Deep South, Catarah Hampshire of Green Cove Springs, Florida and Shoneji Robison of Sarasota, Florida are creating a wave of favorable excitement in the world of desserts! The “delicacy duo” have been serving some of Los Angeles’ elite the best delectable desserts since partnering in 2007 and have already been deemed the “The Dessert Divas”.
Southern Girl Desserts was born from two small town southern girls who have a passion for baking and wanted to make sure the world knew how a good dessert and friendly manners could make a difference in the life of an event. “ I can recall the days where in my small town of Green Cove Springs, you could knock on any door on Thanksgiving or any other day and there would be some type of dessert on the table and of course you’d be offered a piece. That kind of hospitality, generosity and respect that united families and neighbors stuck with me for years and I’m excited to bring that skill as a best practice for SGD”, exclaimed Hampshire.
Shoneji credits her grandmother Joanna, who owned a Caribbean/Soulfood restaurant, and worked in food service her entire life for her dessert passion. At the age of 10, I got my first lesson in baking, said Robison. I made homemade buttermilk biscuits. I wish I could say those biscuits turned out great, but I can’t. They actually looked and felt like little hard cookies, but I was determined for them to be like Grandma’s. I’m actually the same way today. I find a basic recipe that I like and I make it until I get it just right. My way!
